The Travel Tester in Action:
Our guide Richard was very funny and knew a lot about the nature around us
Originally, the snowshoes were made of a hardwood frame with lattices, but these days you’ll get the plastic ones. Getting the snowshoes on with your thick gloves is a bit hard, but once they are on, they are so much fun to walk in!
The scenery is just incredible! With the snowshoes, we were able to climb some hills and easily plough through the thick snow.
We crossed a part of the ski slope, so watch out for skiers and snowboarders!
Besides tracking animals and survival in the wild, our guide has more hidden talents: he plays a traditional French-Canadian folk song for us
Want to hear the song? Check out this video I made!
Richard tells us to look out for animal tracks and not soon after we spot a cute dear!
… and he brought his friends too!
More animal signs: holes made by a Yellow Belly Sap Sucker Woodpecker (or so I have been told)
I LOVE Winter :)
If you want to survive in the wild, you need a couple of basic skills. such as finding the North (look at the limbs of the trees) and making fire with what you can find around you, such as chaga (fungus), shavings from a cedar tree and a strip of bark from a dead white birch tree.
And then there was fire. Incroyable, as they say here. – Incredible!
We watch in awe and record it all…
The Verdict:
I had never tried snowshoeing before, and I loved it! It’s perfect if you would like to do an outdoor activity, but you’re not such an adventure seeker or don’t want to ski or snowboard. As they say themselves: “If you can walk, you can snowshoe!”
What I like specifically about this tour, was the funny guide who showed us all around the area and taught us a bit about survival out in the wild and the animals you can come across. Definitely something different, so I would be happy to recommend this tour to you!
